Nicholas Tombazis Admits FIA Mistake on New Formula 1 Engines
FIA Technical Director Nicholas Tombazis openly admitted that the federation made a mistake regarding the complexity of the new power unit regulations. He noted that leadership had long been aware of the inevitable challenges arising from the equal power split between the thermal and electric parts of the engine.
According to Tombazis, there was significant pressure from various investors to substantially increase the share of electric components. Ultimately, he believes that the potential of electrification was greatly overestimated, which led Formula 1 to approve the controversial 50-50 power split scheme.
