Interview with Stefano Domenicali on the 2026 regulations, Max Verstappen's criticism, and the future of Formula 1
Domenicali calls on teams and fans to remain calm and not dismiss the new rules prematurely. He emphasized that the shift to engines with a 50/50 power split was the absolutely right decision.
Despite Max harshly criticizing the 2026 cars, calling them "Formula E on steroids," Domenicali assures that their relationship is fine. "We have to listen to his voice," he noted. According to him, they have had many open and constructive conversations. Max participates in meetings, offers valuable suggestions, and understands the bigger picture. However, Domenicali also hinted that drivers should be mindful of the weight their words carry in the media.
While teams are still adapting to the 2026 regulations, Formula 1 is already looking ahead. Domenicali stated that the sport needs to decide on the next generation of engines this year. Interestingly, discussions about a possible return to V8 engines had been postponed to focus on current tasks, but now this debate is becoming relevant again.
